Every publication must justify its existence. The purpose of this blog is to offer perspectives on modern economic issues through an Austro-libertarian lens. In the world of the 24 hour news cycle, with opinion and analysis of events dominated by statist voices, we will be a clarion call to return to the ideals of the free society. 

The need for an authentic voice articulating the ideals of liberty is greater than ever. Despite the present dominance of liberal democracy as a form of government, cracks are appearing in the very foundation of modern political economy. Economic growth throughout the West is languid, weighted down by government spending run amuck, and would be entrepreneurs hesitant to take risks amid a climate of confiscatory tax rates, onerous regulations, and capricious political regimes. 

The much vaunted professional media class, journalists, newspaper editors, television personalities, what Hayek called 'second hand dealers in ideas', has proven itself unable or unwilling to seriously challenge the rise of the interventionist state. Instead, the opinion molding class serves as little more than megaphones for the power-elite. 

However, modern technology has increasingly rendered obsolete traditional apparatuses of control. In a reversal of Gresham's law, crypto currency threatens to end fiat money and the state dominated banking system. Television networks are out and YouTube is in. Consumers are increasingly tuning out establishment voices, and listening to each other and forming their own spontaneous communities. Hope springs eternal.
